The first thing which is important to note is the selection of dealer. Every player participating in the game is dealt one card from the pack. The player who possesses the highest number card will be the dealer. In an online game, a dealer can take part in the game as a player while in regular casino games dealer does not participate in the game.

Dealer shuffles the 52 cards of the deck, while a plastic button is placed in front of the dealer to indicate its position. Dealer moves on the button to the left player and starts the game. The two players left to the dealer put fixed amount of money in the pot. These are called “blinds”. The first player puts half of the minimum limit of bet and the other put the full minimum limit of bet in the pot. This process is called “posting the blinds”. This amount of money must be put in the pot to start the game.

First Round of Betting – Pre-flop

During pre-flop, each player is dealt two face-down cards in the center of the table. These cards are called “Hole Cards” or “Pocket Pair”. No player can see those cards until all rounds are completed and the phase of showdown starts.

Second Round of Betting- Flop

In this round, three face-up cards are dealt. These cards are called “Community Cards” and are shared by all players. Other players set their strategy according to these cards.

Third Round of Betting – The Turn

The third round of Texas Hold’em is “the turn”. It is also called “Fourth Street”. This round is also like the previous one with an exception. In this round the bets get doubled. In this way you can better evaluate your opponents hand and can position your own hand effectively. If you are in the position of betting more; don’t hesitate to raise the bet to protect yourself better.

Fourth Round of Betting -The River

“The River” is the fourth round of Texas Hold’em. It is also called “Fifth Street”. In this round the last card is dealt face up on the table. It is going to be the end of the game followed by the showdown.

Showdown

When all rounds of the game have finished, it comes to showdown. At this stage at least two players are left and cards are revealed. Out of these players, the one who made the last bet reveals his cards first. The player with the best five card poker hand is declared the winner of the game. One or both of his pocket cards can be used to make the best five card poker hand. In case of two players with the best hand, the pot is split between the two.
